The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard is a discrete way to show that you have some form of disability (that may not be immediately obvious). This could be any condition, impairment, illness, or disability that impacts day-to-day life.
The lanyard has been a great help for people all over the country, as it lets others know that they may need some extra help, support, or even just a bit more time in certain situations. And now, National Highways has announced the Sunflower is here for vehicles.
How the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower will help road users
By putting the Sunflower sticker or magnet on the back of your vehicle, you’re able to let emergency, breakdown and other roadside services know that you have a disability. When someone’s in a vehicle, every disability is hidden, so the vehicle Sunflower is here for everyone that needs it.
If we, or any other roadside service, see the Sunflower, we’ll do what we can to help keep you safe and supported while we get your vehicle fixed.
Importantly, there are no ‘qualifying requirements’ for the Sunflower. If you want to use one on your vehicle, you can. It’s here to help everyone that needs it.
As Damon Jowett, our Head of Service Delivery, explains, we’re hugely supportive of this initiative.
“By displaying the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower on vehicles, it will mean our recovery network are made aware that there are potential additional needs and support required for the drivers and passengers we attend to.
“This will really help us ensure we provide the best level of service possible and can meet the requirements of all our customers.”
Alongside the magnet and sticker, you’re also able to get Sunflower seatbelt covers (as well as the lanyards and pin badges that were previously available). You can find out more here.
