What would Brits most hate to miss

Green Flag are experts at making sure you don’t miss out on the important things in life, but what would you hate to miss the most?

It’s said that births, marriages and deaths make the world go round, and that’s borne out in our results.

The survey of 2,000 people revealed that the the number one event we couldn’t bear to skip is the funeral of a close friend or relative. That was the top pick for 47 per cent of respondents, followed by the birth of a child or grandchild in joint second place with a friend or family member’s wedding – both received 38 per cent of first choices.

The full list is here:

1. The funeral of a friend or family member
2. The birth of a child or grandchild
2. The wedding of a friend or family member
3. My own or my child’s graduation
4. A hospital appointment
5. A job interview
6. The school nativity play
7. A dentist appointment
8. An important sporting event or fixture
9. A day at work
10. School parents’ evening

The survey also confirmed just how much the nation loves sport. Not only do 11 per cent of people worry most about missing a sporting event (over a funeral – what’s wrong with you?), but more than two thirds (69 per cent) admitted that they would take a day off work to attending an event. A committed 31 per cent went further, saying they would go without sleep if it meant getting to a match.

On seeing the figures, our director Mike Bowman said: “As the research shows, there are some events that we cannot stand to miss, making us fork out a fortune to get where we need to be, whether it’s a wedding or a trip to a rugby match.

“Missing appointments can also have an emotional impact, which is why we are committed to getting people to where they need to be, no matter what.”
